daft punk mash-up visualized
this guy has a great visualization/realtime infographic for his daft punk mashup.
The art of the mashup has come to the fore in pop culture of recent years, but beyond Biggie Smalls crooning over Elton’s keys I feel that the general public understands little of the nuance that goes into constructing a complex mashup from tiny pieces of songs.
In order to explain the layering and interplay that goes into something like a Girl Talk album or The 139 Mix Tape I decided to take my own mashup of Daft Punk’s discography – Definitive Daft Punk – and reveal its entire structure: the cutting, layering, levels and equalisation of 23 different songs. By dividing up the sound data for each song and computing its appearance in realtime, the resulting visualisation gives you an understanding of the unique anatomy of this particular mashup.
The entire piece is composed from the latest HTML5 and CSS3 technology (canvas, audio, transforms & transitions) so you’ll need a newer browser to view it in. I recommend Chrome because it pulls off the best performance with my mangled code. All of the waveform and spectrum visualisation is performed in realtime, so your browser is rendering a music video on the fly!

fret_1 by Equiloud and Leisure-B
fret_1 was made with Cinema 4d 11.5 and its Mograph, Deformer Objects (like Explosion FX) and Particle Emitters. Also, After Effects CS4 was used for all the compositing work and some 2.5D-Animations. Inside After Effects, different Plug-Ins like Twitch and Optical Flares from videocopilot.net were also applied. Of course a whole bunch of standard Plug-Ins like Levels,Time-Remapping, Glow, Blur etc, were involved.
Usselino originally created the video based on the Autechre track “Vose In”. After showing the video to Leisure, both gentleman figured that a change of tune might not be a bad idea.
The audio work was then completely redone by using Ableton Live for the sequencing, and NI’s Massive and Battery for instrumentation of the harmonies and rhythms. Stay tuned for presets of that.

atlante di roma
Art is Open Source (artisopensource.net) and Fake Press (fakepress.net) will be presenting an enormous interactive infoaesthetic environment at the Festa dell’Architettura of Rome, from the 9th to 12th of June 2010.
The interactive environment is named “Atlante di Roma” (Atlas of Rome) and it is an instance of a wider project which will be launched online on the website atlantedellevisioni.net . The project is curated by Paolo Valente, who practically made everything possible. The Atlas has another component which is called ABC Roma by Giuseppe Stampone.
